This amazing appetizer is comprised of creamy feta cheese, crunchy walnuts, sweet hot honey, and a little oregano to make the perfect pair with pita chips or any Mediterranean dish. This will definitely be my new favourite spring appetizer!
This recipe is actually quite easy and a new favourite of mine. With its creamy texture, tangy flavour, it pairs so well with the sweet honey, earthy oregano, and mild walnuts. And the spice is just for fun!
This recipe only requires a blender/food processors and a small saucepan. You can make this recipe as an appetizer or to accompany a dish like Greek bowls or Gyros (without the walnuts).
Hot Honey & Walnut Whipped Feta
Serves: 8-10 (as an appetizer)
Prep time: 10 minutes
Ingredients
2 cups feta cheese (I used the blocks in the brine)
¾ cup plain greek yogurt
2 tablespoons oil (I used olive oil)
3 tablespoons lemon juice
4 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
¼ cup chopped walnuts
2 tablespoons chopped oregano leaves, or 1 tsp dried oregano (optional)
Directions
Bring a small saucepan to medium heat. Add 3 tablespoons of the honey and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer until honey is melted. Add walnuts to the honey, combine, and set aside.
While waiting for the honey to simmer, add the feta, yogurt, oil, lemon juice, and remaining honey in a blender and blend until smooth. There may be some small lumps in it but that's okay! It won't be perfect.
Pour the feta mixture into a serving dish, topping with honey mixture and fresh oregano. If using dried oregano, add to the honey mixture before pour over the feta.
Enjoy as a dip with pita chips or add to a Mediterranean dish.
